Application of Ferrocene

Ferrocene is mainly used as rocket fuel additive, antiknock agent of gasoline and curing agent of rubber and silicone resin. It can also be used as ultraviolet absorber. Vinyl derivatives of ferrocene can undergo olefin bond polymerization to obtain metal containing polymers with carbon chain skeleton, which can be used as outer coating of spacecraft. The smoke elimination and combustion supporting effect of ferrocene was found earlier. It can play this effect when added to solid fuel, liquid fuel or gas fuel, especially for the Smokey hydrocarbons produced during combustion. It has a good anti-seismic effect when added to gasoline, but it is limited due to the influence of ignition caused by the deposition of iron oxide on the spark plug. Therefore, some people also use iron exhaust mixture to reduce the deposition of iron.

Ferrocene

Ferrocene not only has the above functions, but also can be added to kerosene or diesel. Since the engine does not use ignition device, it has less adverse effects. In addition to smoke elimination and combustion support, it also promotes the conversion of carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. In addition, it can increase combustion heat and power in combustion, so as to save energy and reduce air pollution.

Adding ferrocene to boiler fuel oil can reduce smoke generation and nozzle carbon deposition. Adding 0.1% to diesel oil can eliminate smoke by 30-70%, save fuel by 10-14% and increase power by 10%. There are more reports on the use of ferrocene in solid rocket fuel, and even mixed with pulverized coal as smoke reducer. When high polymer waste is used as fuel, ferrocene can reduce smoke several times, and can also be used as smoke reducing additive for plastics. In addition to the above uses, ferrocene has other applications. As an iron fertilizer, it is beneficial to plant absorption, growth rate and iron content of crops. Its derivatives can be used as pesticides. Ferrocene is also widely used in industrial and organic synthesis. For example, its derivatives can be used as antioxidants for rubber or polyethylene, stabilizers for polyurea esters, catalysts for the methylation of isobutene and Decomposition Catalysts for polymer peroxides to increase the yield of p-chlorotoluene in toluene chlorination. In other aspects, they can also be used as anti load additives for lubricating oils and accelerators for grinding materials.
