Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in fat oil, soluble in dilute acid, ethanol, ether, chloroform, almond oil, olive oil.Used as a local anesthetic. Long – term effect, low toxicity. Benzocaine, sold under the brand name Orajel among others, is an ester local anesthetic commonly used as a topical pain reliever or in cough drops.
